Cool, silvery and ridiculously easy to live with, Sansevieria ‘Moonshine’ is a softer-looking take on the classic Snake Plant.

Its broad, upright leaves emerge in beautiful pale silvery-green shades, gradually developing deeper green tones as they mature. The result is a wonderfully architectural plant with a slightly ghostly finish that looks particularly striking against darker interiors.

Like its Snake Plant relatives, ‘Moonshine’ isn't interested in making life difficult. Give it plenty of indirect light to encourage that beautiful silver colouring, let the growing medium dry thoroughly between drinks and it'll happily tolerate the occasional forgotten watering.

OUR THOUGHTS

Snake Plant toughness without the classic stripy Snake Plant look. Those broad, silvery leaves give ‘Moonshine’ a beautifully clean, almost ghostly appearance, while underneath all that sophistication it's still basically saying, “Don't water me too often and we'll get along brilliantly.”

GROW WITH CONFIDENCE

Looking After Your Plant

Watering

Allow the growing medium to dry thoroughly between waterings, then water well and let all excess water drain freely. ‘Moonshine’ stores moisture in its thick leaves and rhizomes, so overwatering is a much greater risk than occasionally leaving it dry. Water considerably less during cooler, darker months.

Light

Bright, indirect light is ideal for ‘Moonshine’ and helps encourage its distinctive pale silver-green colouring. It can tolerate lower-light positions, although growth will be slower and new foliage may develop a deeper green appearance. Avoid suddenly placing it in strong direct sunlight without acclimatising it first.

Humidity & Temperature

Average household humidity is ideal. ‘Moonshine’ doesn't require high humidity and is generally happiest in normal indoor conditions with good airflow. Avoid prolonged cold, damp conditions.

Feeding

Feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Snake Plants aren't particularly hungry, so avoid heavy feeding. Reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter when growth slows.

Repotting & Growth

‘Moonshine’ is relatively slow-growing and generally doesn't mind being slightly snug in its pot. Repot when noticeably root-bound, moving up only slightly in pot size and using a very free-draining growing mix. New shoots emerge from underground rhizomes and gradually form a fuller clump around the parent plant.

Pet Safety

Sansevieria ‘Moonshine’ is not considered pet safe. It contains compounds that can cause gastrointestinal upset if eaten, so keep it away from cats, dogs and other curious plant nibblers. If you suspect your pet has eaten part of the plant, contact your vet for advice.

A NOTE FROM US

Want those leaves looking more moonlit than forest green? Give this one plenty of bright indirect light. It'll cope with a darker corner, but the trade-off can be deeper green foliage. Whatever light it's in, resist the temptation to fuss over it with the watering can. Dry first, drink second.
