All the split-leaf drama of a Monstera, packed into a smaller, faster-growing climber.

Commonly known as Monstera Minima, Rhaphidophora tetrasperma produces beautifully shaped green leaves that develop distinctive splits as the plant matures. Its naturally climbing growth makes it perfect for a moss pole, coir pole or trellis, where those wandering stems can head upwards and produce increasingly impressive foliage.

Fast-growing in the right conditions and considerably more compact than a full-sized Monstera deliciosa, it's a brilliant choice when you want the indoor-jungle look without eventually surrendering an entire corner of the room.

OUR THOUGHTS

It's basically the answer to “I want that split-leaf jungle look, but I don't have room for a giant Monstera.” The leaves stay relatively compact, the plant loves to climb and new growth can come thick and fast when it's happy. Train it up a pole and you've got a lot of plant without an enormous footprint.

GROW WITH CONFIDENCE

Looking After Your Plant

Watering

Allow the upper few centimetres of the growing medium to dry before watering thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain freely. Avoid keeping the roots permanently wet or allowing the pot to sit in standing water. Reduce watering during cooler, darker periods when growth slows.

Light

Give Monstera Minima plenty of bright, indirect light to encourage strong, compact growth and mature split foliage. It can tolerate somewhat softer light, although growth may slow and become more stretched. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Humidity & Temperature

Average to medium household humidity is generally suitable, although Monstera Minima appreciates a little extra humidity alongside warmth and good airflow. Keep it away from cold draughts, hot radiators and sudden temperature changes.

Feeding

Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser around once a month during active growth in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter when growth naturally slows.

Repotting & Growth

Monstera Minima is a naturally vigorous climber and benefits from a moss pole, coir pole, trellis or other support. Giving it something to climb will help create a more upright plant and encourage increasingly mature foliage. Repot when noticeably root-bound, moving up only slightly in pot size and using a chunky, airy and well-draining growing mix.

Pet Safety

Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is not considered pet safe. Like many members of the aroid family, its tissues contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals which can cause irritation if chewed or ingested. Keep it away from cats, dogs and other curious pets, and contact your vet for advice if you suspect part of the plant has been eaten.

A NOTE FROM US

Despite the nickname, this little climber isn't actually a Monstera. What it does share is that gorgeous split-leaf look. Give it bright indirect light and something to climb early on, because once it's happy, Rhaphidophora tetrasperma can move surprisingly quickly.
