Glossy, colourful and beautifully bold, Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ takes the classic Rubber Plant and gives it a rather spectacular makeover.
Its thick, glossy leaves are patterned with rich green, creamy variegation and beautiful blush-pink tones, with every new leaf bringing its own slightly different mix of colour. Upright and architectural as it matures, ‘Belize’ makes a brilliant statement plant without demanding particularly complicated care.
Give it plenty of bright indirect light to help maintain that gorgeous colouring, and it can grow into an impressive indoor tree over time.

OUR THOUGHTS
Rubber Plants already have some of the glossiest foliage around, but ‘Belize’ decided green alone wasn't enough. Creamy margins, deep green centres and flashes of blush pink make every leaf slightly different. Better still, it can eventually turn all that colour into a seriously impressive indoor tree.
GROW WITH CONFIDENCE
Looking After Your Plant
Watering
Allow the upper few centimetres of the growing medium to dry before watering thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain freely. Rubber Plants prefer being allowed to dry slightly between drinks rather than sitting in constantly wet soil. Reduce watering during cooler periods when growth slows.
Light
Give ‘Belize’ plenty of bright, indirect light to maintain strong growth and its beautiful pink, cream and green variegation. A little gentle direct morning or evening sun can be beneficial, but introduce stronger light gradually and avoid prolonged harsh midday sun.
Humidity & Temperature
Average household humidity is generally suitable for ‘Belize’, although it appreciates moderate humidity and warm, stable conditions. Keep it away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Wiping the broad leaves occasionally also helps keep them clean and looking beautifully glossy.
Feeding
Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser around once a month during active growth in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Reduce feeding during autumn and winter as growth slows.
Repotting & Growth
‘Belize’ has an upright growth habit and can eventually develop into an impressive indoor tree. Repot when noticeably root-bound, moving up only slightly in pot size and using a light, well-draining houseplant mix. Avoid unnecessarily oversized pots, which can leave the roots sitting wet for too long.
Pet Safety
Ficus elastica ‘Belize’ is not considered pet safe. Its milky sap can cause irritation and the plant should be kept out of reach of cats, dogs and other pets that may chew the foliage. If you suspect your pet has eaten part of the plant, contact your vet for advice.
A NOTE FROM US
The trick with Belize is light. Those gorgeous pale and pink sections contain less chlorophyll than the green parts of the leaf, so give this one a properly bright spot with indirect light. Let the top of the soil dry between drinks and don't keep moving it around once you've found somewhere it's happy.
