Couldn't load pickup availability
Soft, striped and wonderfully tropical, Calathea zebrina is loved for its large velvety leaves, patterned with bold bands of deep green against a lighter green background.
Its foliage creates a beautifully lush display as the plant matures, while the striped pattern gives every leaf that unmistakable zebra-like finish. As part of the prayer plant family, its leaves can also gently shift position throughout the day in response to changing light.
Give Zebrina warmth, humidity and consistent care and it'll reward you with a gorgeous mass of patterned foliage.

OUR THOUGHTS
The foliage on Zebrina has an almost velvety quality that makes those dark green stripes look even better in person. We love the combination of huge soft leaves, bold patterning and the gentle movement you get from a prayer plant. Give it room to fill out and it becomes a seriously impressive plant.
GROW WITH CONFIDENCE
Looking After Your Plant
Watering
Keep the growing medium lightly and consistently moist, allowing the surface to begin drying before watering again. Avoid both prolonged drought and permanently saturated soil. Calatheas can be sensitive to minerals in tap water, so rainwater or filtered water can be helpful if persistent browning or crispy leaf edges develop.
Light
Give Calathea zebrina plenty of bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain its beautiful striped foliage. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves and fade their markings. It can tolerate somewhat softer light, although growth may become slower.
Humidity & Temperature
Calathea zebrina appreciates high humidity and warm, stable conditions. Its large, soft foliage can develop crispy edges in very dry air, so keep it away from radiators, cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Good airflow is still important alongside higher humidity.
Feeding
Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser around once a month during active growth in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Calatheas can be sensitive to excess fertiliser, so avoid overfeeding and reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.
Repotting & Growth
Calathea zebrina develops into a full, clumping plant with new foliage emerging from the base. Repot when noticeably root-bound, moving up only slightly in pot size and using a light, moisture-retentive but well-draining houseplant mix. Remove old, yellowing or badly damaged leaves at the base when needed.
Pet Safety
Calathea zebrina is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a great option for pet-friendly homes. As with any houseplant, it's still best to discourage pets from chewing or damaging the foliage.
A NOTE FROM US
Zebrina likes consistency. Keep the soil lightly moist, give it good humidity and somewhere warm with plenty of indirect light. Those soft leaves aren't particularly fond of dry air, so if the edges start crisping, humidity and water quality are two of the first things we'd check.
