Pink, dramatic and unapologetically colourful, Calathea roseopicta ‘Rosy’ produces broad rounded leaves filled with beautiful rosy-pink colour and framed by deep green edges.

Turn the foliage over and rich burgundy-purple tones add another layer of colour underneath. Like other members of the prayer plant family, its leaves can gently change position throughout the day as they respond to changing light.

‘Rosy’ appreciates warmth, humidity and consistent care, but when the foliage looks this good, we think she's allowed to have standards.

OUR THOUGHTS

Green apparently wasn't enough for ‘Rosy’. The centre of each broad leaf is flooded with beautiful pink before meeting a deep green border, with burgundy-purple hiding underneath for good measure. We love how completely different it looks from the usual green houseplant without needing a single flower to provide the colour.

GROW WITH CONFIDENCE

Looking After Your Plant

Watering

Keep the growing medium lightly and consistently moist, allowing the surface to begin drying before watering again. Avoid both prolonged drought and permanently saturated soil. Calatheas can be sensitive to minerals in tap water, so rainwater or filtered water can be helpful if persistent browning or crispy leaf edges develop.

Light

Give ‘Rosy’ plenty of bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain its beautiful pink colouring. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage and fade its markings. Softer light can be tolerated, although growth may become slower and the colouring less intense.

Humidity & Temperature

‘Rosy’ appreciates high humidity and warm, stable conditions. Dry air can contribute to brown or crispy leaf edges, so keep it away from radiators, cold draughts and sudden temperature changes. Good airflow is still important when humidity is higher.

Feeding

Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser around once a month during active growth in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Calatheas can be sensitive to excess fertiliser, so avoid overfeeding and reduce or stop feeding during autumn and winter.

Repotting & Growth

‘Rosy’ develops into a compact, clumping plant with new leaves emerging from the base. Repot when noticeably root-bound, moving up only slightly in pot size and using a light, moisture-retentive but well-draining houseplant mix. Remove old, yellowing or badly damaged leaves at the base when needed.

Pet Safety

Calathea roseopicta ‘Rosy’ is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a lovely option for pet-friendly homes. As with any houseplant, it's still best to discourage pets from chewing or damaging the foliage.

A NOTE FROM US

Rosy is one of those plants where good light really matters if you want the colour to stay looking its best. Give her bright indirect light, plenty of humidity and lightly moist soil without letting the roots sit wet. If those pink leaves start developing crispy edges, humidity and water quality are the first places we'd investigate.
