Colourful, tropical and impossible to overlook, Caladium ‘Carolyn Whorton’ produces beautiful heart-shaped leaves splashed with shades of green and pink, with vivid pink-red veins running through each leaf.

Every leaf develops its own pattern, creating a wonderfully colourful display that looks almost hand-painted. Its delicate foliage sits above slender stems, bringing plenty of tropical personality without needing an enormous amount of space.

Caladiums naturally have a dormant period, so don't be alarmed if the foliage begins to die back as the growing season ends. The tuber rests beneath the soil before returning to growth when conditions are right.

OUR THOUGHTS

Every leaf on ‘Carolyn Whorton’ seems to have been given its own paintbrush. Deep green provides the backdrop while vivid pink veins and scattered pink markings spread across the foliage in slightly different patterns. It's colourful without being delicate-looking and brings an instant tropical hit wherever you put it.

GROW WITH CONFIDENCE

Looking After Your Plant

Watering

During active growth, keep the growing medium lightly and consistently moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. Water when the upper layer begins to dry and allow excess water to drain freely. As the plant enters dormancy and its foliage begins to die back, gradually reduce watering and keep the resting tuber much drier.

Light

Give ‘Carolyn Whorton’ plenty of bright, indirect light to encourage strong growth and maintain its beautiful pink and green colouring. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch its thin foliage.

Humidity & Temperature

‘Carolyn Whorton’ appreciates warm conditions and medium to high humidity. Keep it away from cold draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes. Additional humidity can help support its delicate foliage, although good airflow remains important.

Feeding

Feed lightly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser around once a month while ‘Carolyn Whorton’ is actively growing, following the manufacturer's instructions. Stop feeding when growth slows or the plant begins entering dormancy, then resume once fresh growth appears.

Repotting & Growth

Caladium ‘Carolyn Whorton’ grows from an underground tuber and produces its colourful foliage during its active growing season. Repot when needed into a light, airy and well-draining mix, using a pot with good drainage. Caladiums naturally enter dormancy, when the foliage may yellow and die back. During this resting period, reduce watering significantly and allow the tuber to rest until fresh growth begins.

Pet Safety

Caladium ‘Carolyn Whorton’ is not considered pet safe and should be kept out of reach of cats, dogs and other pets that may chew the foliage. If you suspect your pet has eaten part of the plant, contact your vet for advice.

A NOTE FROM US

Carolyn is a colourful one, so give her plenty of bright indirect light to help those pink markings shine. While she's actively growing, keep the soil lightly moist and the environment warm and humid. And if she starts disappearing later in the year, don't immediately write the obituary. Caladiums naturally retreat into dormancy before growing again.
