Bold, dramatic and beautifully architectural, Alocasia ‘Polly’ is instantly recognisable for its deep green, shield-shaped leaves traced with striking pale veins.

Compact compared with many larger Alocasias but certainly not short on impact, its sculptural foliage makes a brilliant statement on a shelf, plant stand or sideboard. Give it warmth, humidity and plenty of bright indirect light and ‘Polly’ will happily bring a little tropical drama to the room.

OUR THOUGHTS

Alocasia ‘Polly’ looks far more exotic than its compact size suggests. Those dark, glossy leaves, dramatic pale veins and wonderfully wavy edges give it an almost prehistoric appearance. We love that you can get all the drama of an enormous tropical Alocasia without needing to surrender half the living room to it.

GROW WITH CONFIDENCE

Looking After Your Plant

Watering

Keep the growing medium lightly and consistently moist during active growth, allowing the upper layer to begin drying before watering again. Water thoroughly and let all excess water drain away. Avoid allowing the plant to sit in water or keeping the soil permanently saturated. Reduce watering when growth slows during the cooler months.

Light

Give Alocasia ‘Polly’ plenty of bright, indirect light to support strong, healthy growth. Some gentle morning or evening sun can be tolerated, but avoid prolonged harsh midday sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

Humidity & Temperature

Alocasia ‘Polly’ appreciates medium to high humidity and warm, stable conditions. Keep it away from cold draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes. Good airflow is still important, particularly in more humid conditions.

Feeding

Feed with a balanced houseplant fertiliser around once a month during active growth in spring and summer, following the manufacturer's instructions. Reduce or stop feeding when growth slows during autumn and winter.

Repotting & Growth

Alocasia ‘Polly’ grows from underground corms and develops its dramatic leaves on individual upright stems. Repot when noticeably root-bound, moving up only slightly in pot size and using a light, airy and well-draining aroid mix. Remove yellowing or spent leaves at the base when needed. Growth can slow considerably during the cooler, darker months, so don't panic if your plant becomes less active over winter.

Pet Safety

Alocasia ‘Polly’ is not considered pet safe and should be kept out of reach of cats, dogs and other pets that may chew the foliage. If you suspect your pet has eaten part of the plant, contact your vet for advice.

A NOTE FROM US

Polly likes things a little more tropical than some of our easier houseplants. Give her warmth, good humidity and plenty of bright indirect light, and keep an eye on the soil rather than watering to a strict schedule. And don't immediately panic over the occasional older yellow leaf. Alocasias have a habit of retiring one leaf while preparing another.
